The shoulder CPM is ideal for use after both open surgery and arthroscopy. It takes the joint through ROM exercises including: abduction-adduction, elevation and internal-external rotation. Clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the shoulder CPM as part of a post-surgery recovery plan to rehabilitate the joint and improve strength and ROM.
A clinical study concluded that “early passive motion ROM exercises of the shoulder both prevent adhesions and protect the repair” ‘Continuing Care’ - Flowers (1990). This is achieved effectively with a CPM machine.
Paulos and Franklin (1990) found that in relation to shoulder surgery; “postoperative rehabilitation, which includes early range of motion, is critical’ (The American Journal of Sports Medicine).
